Embroidery Tip

For those of you who like to precut your applique design, here is how you make the outline on your applique fabric: Choose the applique design from the applique motif menu. (For this eample, use the apple).  Go to the tree view, highlight the green applique icon and right click. This creates a pop-up window. Go to Duplicate and left click. Repeat this process but go to Paste and left click. You now have two copies of the Apple applique, one exactly on top of the other. Go to the second applique icon and right click. Go to Convert To, go to Run and left click. You now have the applique and the run stitch outline. This is what you will use as your die line. Go to the applique icon and left click. This activates your Properties box. Under Commands, change the color to something light. Go to the Run stitch, left click, go to commands and change the color to something dark. Highlight both icons and right click. In the pop-up, go to group and left click. Now it is safe to work with the two images. They will stay together in the same spot. Check carefully to see that the die line is covered by the satin stitch. In this example, the die line is not completely covered. Take the magnifying glass and look on the right side where the leaf meets the apple. You need to move the stitches inside the satin stitch. With the area still magnified, go to the third icon down, the Shape Tool (F9) Grab the end of the stitch where it comes to a point and move it back inside the satin stitching. Go to the applique icon in the tree view, right click and hit delete. Now you have the outline for your die line. Save under an appropriate name and you're done.
