In the Quick Start for Lettering Pro III, you will load a Jack-o-Lantern’s embroidery design and add “ Trick or Treat”. By the time you have finished this lesson you should have a good working knowledge on how Lettering Pro III works.
1. Click on the Open icon.

2. Select design LP-QS-01-JackoLantern.mgl

3. Click on the Hoop Icon.

4. Select “Babylock – Brother (Pes) 100 x 100 and click on OK.

5. Click the “A” icon for Auto Lettering.

6. Click the mouse in the center of the Jack-o-Lantern’s mouth. Notice the letter “A” appears and the properties box for lettering appears.

7. In the Lettering Properties box, replace the “A” with “TRICK” and click on “Apply”.

8. Move your mouse to the letter “T” and with the left mouse button, click and hold.
9. Move “TRICK” to the left where the letter “T” is, just under the tooth of the Jack-o-Lantern.

10. With your left mouse button Click and hold the left mouse button down on the black diamond found at the bottom left of “TRICK”.

11. Move the mouse to the left. Notice that we are squashing the line of text to the left to fit within the mouth. Make the word “TRICK” fit with in the Jack-O-Lantern's mouth.

12. Once you have the word “TRICK” placed, click the right mouse button in the center of “ TRICK” and move down to “Envelope” and select “Bridge Concave Top. ”Depending on where you previously placed the word “TRICK”, you might need to move the word up or own to make it look more pleasing to the eye.
13. Unselect the word “TRICK” by clicking anywhere outside the design area with your left mouse button. Notice that the “A” function is still selected.

14. With your left mouse button click just under the “T” in TRICK.
15. In the Lettering Properties box, replace the “A” with “TREAT”
16. Click “Apply”
17. Move “TREAT” just under TRICK.

18. This time, with the left mouse button, click and hold the black diamond at the top left of “TREAT”.

19. Move your mouse to the right. Notice that the word “TREAT” becomes smaller proportionately.
Also notice as you make the height of the letters smaller and let go of the left mouse button, the height changes in proportion. In this example, change the height to where it is approximately 15 mm.

20. Reposition the word “TREAT” as show in Figure LP-14.

21. With your left mouse button, click and hold on the green dot at the bottom center of “ TREAT”.
22. Move the mouse down, curving the bottom of the letters.

At this point we will add “RED” to our design and change the color of our text.
23. At the bottom of the screen just to the left of the number “7” click the right mouse button and click on “Add Color”.

24. Double click on color number 8.

25. Select 2263 Foxy Red. This can be done by clicking on the color or typing in 2263 in the “Find Number” box.
26. Click OK.
27. Click on the “TEXT” object as shown in Figure LP- 18.

28. Hold down the control key and click on the second “TEXT” object.
29. Click with the right mouse button on color 8, and select “Apply Color”.

30. Unselect all objects by clicking anywhere outside the design area.
31. Click the “A” icon for Auto Lettering.

32. Click the mouse to the right of the Jack-o-Lantern; the letter “A” appears.

33. Click on color 7 with the right mouse button, and select “Apply Color” the letter “A” should have turned black.

34. In the Lettering Properties box, replace the “A” with “OR” and click on “Apply”.

35. Move the “OR” to the center of “TRICK” and “TREAT”.

36. Change the size of “OR” to 12mm by changing the height in lettering properties or using the sizing icon (diamond), at the top left of “OR”. After sizing, you might need to reposition the text “OR” to the center of “TRICK” and “TREAT”.

37. Click on “TRICK”
38. With the left mouse button, click and hold down on the bottom center green circle. If the green dot doesn’t appear. then click on the “A” icon as shown in Figure LP-26. Once this is done, go to the drop down menu FILE and click on “Save As”.

39. Move your mouse up as shown in Figure LP-27.

40. Click on “TREAT”.
41. With the left mouse button, click and hold down on the center green circle.
42. Move your mouse down as shown in Figure LP-28.

43. Once this is done, go to the drop down menu FILE and click on “Save As”.

44. Save your design on your hard drive as an C2S file.

It is very important to save your design in this format just in case you wish to come back and edit something later. After it’s saved in C2S, then go back to Save As and save it in whatever format your sewing machine uses.
