Quick Start Lesson IX - Applique Stitch

In the Quick Start IX for Digitizing Pro III, we will go through the functionality of how to use the Applique. By the time you have finished this lesson you should have a good working knowledge on how to use this function.


An Applique is a piece of material that will be fastened to another piece of material with stitching. The “ Applique Tool automates this process and lays down the necessary stitching automatically.


The stitching that is placed is as follows: 


1. A running guide stitch to show applique placement.

2. A stop command to stop the machine to allow for the applique piece to be placed.

3. A cover stitch to hold the applique in place.


1. Go to the drop down menu File and click on NEW.



2. Select the "Backdrop Tool" using the left mouse button.



3. Select DigP-QS-07-Applique_Arrow.jpg using the left mouse button.

4. Click on Open using the left mouse button.



5. Go to Zoom and select To Fit with your left mouse button.



6. Click on Applique with your left mouse button.



7. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 1.



8. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 2.



9. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 3.



10. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 4.



11. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 5.



12. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 6.



13. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 7.



14. Click the left mouse button on the blue dot number 8.



15. Click the right mouse button on the purple dot number 9.



16. Click the left mouse button on the Backdrop icon to turn off the backdrop.



17. You have just digitized your first Applique.



The next 10 steps are for reference only. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with all the properties you can control with the functions described above.


18. Click on the + to expand the object within the first color using the left mouse button.  



19. Click on the Steil object using the left mouse button.



20. Click on the Properties icon with your left mouse button.



21. Looking at the properties, you can control each objects attributes within the design.



Applique properties


You can set the:

A. Type:

       1. Satin

       2. E-Stitch

       3. Motif

       4. Symbol

B. Applique width

C. Stitch length

D. Pattern length

E. Applique density

F. Corner type:

       1. Square

       2. Extended

G. Activation angle


22. Commands properties



You can set the:


A. Color

B. Start command:

       1. Normal (will sew).

       2. Jump (travel stitch).

       3. Trim (force trim at start).

       4. Stop (color change at start).

       5. Frame out (move the pantograph to the top middle point at start).

C. End command:

       1. Normal (will sew).

       2. Jump (travel stitch).

       3. Trim (force trim at start).

       4. Stop (color change at start).

       5. Frame out (move the pantograph to the top middle point at start).

D. Tie in:

       1. None (No lock down stitch).

       2. Basic (The lock down stitch will be added to the beginning of the object and will                    appear to sew back and forth in a straight line).

       3. Triangular (The lock down stitch will be added to the beginning of the object and                     will appear to sew back and forth in a triangular patterns).

E. Tie off:

       1. None (No lock down stitch).

       2. Basic (The lock down stitch will be added to the beginning of the object and will                     appear to sew back and forth in a straight line).

       3. Triangular (The lock down stitch will be added to the beginning of the object and                     will appear to sew back and forth in a triangular patterns).
